Iced Earth 1991
Iced Earth is the eponymous debut album by American heavy metal band Iced Earth. It was released in November 1990 internationally and February 1991 in North America. The original release of this album had two different covers (a worldwide cover and a different Japanese cover). This album was Mike McGill's only album with Iced Earth, as well as the last for singer Gene Adam. Like the album's successor Night of the Stormrider, Iced Earth follows a more traditional thrash metal sound, rather than the power metal direction the band would follow after Matt Barlow had joined. Iced Earth would stick to the power metal formula until Barlow left the band, with his replacement Tim Owens singing in a style reminiscent of both genres.
Iced Earth's first three albums (this album, Night of the Stormrider, and Burnt Offerings) were remastered in 2001, and each had a new cover.
[edit] Track listing
1. "Iced Earth" (Jon Schaffer) – 5:22
2. "Written on the Walls" (Gene Adam, Randall Shawner, Schaffer, Dave Abell) – 6:06
3. "Colors" (Shawver, Schaffer) – 4:50
4. "Curse the Sky" (Shawver, Schaffer) – 4:41
5. "Life and Death" (Shawver, Schaffer) – 6:07
6. "Solitude" (Shawver, Schaffer) – 1:44
7. "The Funeral" (Shawver, Schaffer) – 6:15

Night of the Stormrider (1991)
Night of the Stormrider is American heavy metal band Iced Earth's second full-length album. It is a concept album about a man who is betrayed by religion and turns away from it in anger. The dark forces of nature reach out to this enraged man and use him as their vessel to bring death and destruction to Earth. He is commanded to travel to a desert, where he is given visions that reveal the truth of humanity, and warp his mind further to make him the "Stormrider." After the destruction of the world, he is then damned forever into the depths of Hell, also referenced as the River Styx. After being forever damned and taunted by evil spirits, he eventually sees what he has done, and realizes that it is too late to repent.
Night of the Stormrider is the only album featuring lead singer John Greely (who was later fired) and drummer Rick Secchiari. Like the album's predecessor Iced Earth, Night of the Stormrider is mostly a thrash metal release, the main reason being Greely's vocals, which are slightly more aggressive than the power metal reminiscent vocals of Matt Barlow.
[edit] Track listing
1. "Angels Holocaust" (Jon Schaffer) – 4:53
2. "Stormrider" (Randall Shawver, Schaffer) – 4:47
3. "The Path I Choose" (Shawver, Schaffer) – 5:54
4. "Before the Vision" (Shawver, Schaffer, Dave Abell) – 1:35
5. "Mystical End" (Schaffer) – 4:44
6. "Desert Rain" (Schaffer, Abell) – 6:56
7. "Pure Evil" (Shawver, Schaffer) – 6:33
8. "Reaching the End" (Schaffer) – 1:11

Burnt Offerings (1995)
Burnt Offerings is American heavy metal band Iced Earth's third album, released April 18, 1995, by Century Media Records. This album marked the introduction of legendary metal vocalist Matt Barlow, who many fans, even after his exit from the band to work for the Department of Homeland Security following the September 11, 2001 attacks, consider to be "the voice" of Iced Earth. It is also the only Iced Earth album featuring drummer Rodney Beasley. The final track of the album, Dante's Inferno, is based on the famous epic poem The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. The original album cover is of Lucifer in the Ninth Circle from Gustave Doré's series of engravings based on the work.
This album drew both ire and praise at the same time, anger from the European fans who felt betrayed that Iced Earth chose a different path musically, and in contrast, sold much higher in the USA than their previous albums. The arrival of Barlow began bringing influences from power metal, though this album still retained some of the musical identity of thrash metal from the bands previous albums.
As with Iced Earth and Night of the Stormrider, the 2001 remastered version has a new cover.
[edit] Interpretation
Burnt Offerings is said to have been written during a time of turmoil and anger, particularly focusing on a dispute with the band's then record label, Century Media Records. According to interviews with Jon Schaffer, the title track is about the band's struggles with Century Media.
[edit] Track listing
1. "Burnt Offerings" (Randall Shawver, Jon Schaffer) – 7:22
2. "Last December" (Schaffer) – 3:23
3. "Diary" (Matt Barlow, Shawver, Schaffer, Dave Abell) – 6:14
4. "Brainwashed" (Shawver, Schaffer) – 5:22
5. "Burning Oasis" (Shawver, Schaffer, Abell) – 6:00
6. "Creator Failure" (Barlow, Shawver, Schaffer, Abell) – 6:02
7. "The Pierced Spirit" (Shawver, Schaffer, Abell) – 1:54
8. "Dante's Inferno" (Schaffer) – 16:26

The Dark Saga (1996)
The Dark Saga is the fourth album by the American heavy metal band Iced Earth. It is a concept album based upon the comic book character Spawn created by Todd McFarlane, who also provided the album artwork.
[edit] History
The Dark Saga tells the story of a man who sells his soul to the devil in order to return to his true love on Earth, but he soon discovers that she is married to his own best friend. He is left completely alone in the world, and although he has good inside, he is influenced by dark forces. Everything that he desires is denied, even his own death.
The majority of the songs on the album feature a relatively short running time (under four minutes), with the final four tracks being of longer duration. The song structure is more simple and straightforward than on previous Iced Earth albums. Many fans note the improved vocal range of lead singer Matt Barlow, who had taken singing lessons after the release of Burnt Offerings. This is also the first Iced Earth album featuring drummer Mark Prator, and also the last album to feature bassist Dave Abell and guitarist Randall Shawver. There was also a limited edition digipak version in Europe that includes a cover of "The Ripper" by Judas Priest as a bonus track that was originally recorded for the Judas Priest tribute album A Tribute to Judas Priest: Legends of Metal Vol. 2. Which also later appears on the reissue of The Melancholy EP.

The Glorious Burden (2004)
The Glorious Burden is the eighth studio album by the American heavy metal band Iced Earth. It is a concept album, which explores various moments in American military history, such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolutionary War, and American Civil War. It also pays tribute to world events such as World War I, the World Trade Center attacks and the ravages of Attila the Hun.
The album's centerpiece is the last three songs which together form a trilogy entitled Gettysburg (1863). Each song represents one day in the Battle of Gettysburg, which is the largest battle ever conducted in the Western Hemisphere and considered the turning point in the American Civil War. [1]
This album features the debut of lead singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens, formerly of Judas Priest. The album was first recorded with Matt Barlow on vocals, but band leader Jon Schaffer was not satisfied with his performance. Due to the events of September 11th, Barlow became more interested in law enforcement than the music business, and according to Schaffer "Matt's heart was not in it and it showed in his performance."[2] As a result, Matt left the band and the album was shelved until a new vocalist could be found. However, some of Barlow's initial recordings remain on the record as backing vocals.
Tim Owens, who at that time was still in Judas Priest, was asked to do the vocals as a side project. However, he joined the band full time after Judas Priest reunited with Rob Halford.
This record is the only Iced Earth album to feature Ralph Santolla on lead guitars. This was the last studio album for bassist James MacDonough and drummer Richard Christy. Additionally, The Glorious Burden is the first Iced Earth album to draw considerable thrash metal influence since the band's third album, Burnt Offerings.
The album was released in 3 different formats: a limited edition 2-CD version in digipak format, an American version and a European version. [3] See the tracklist for the differences.
"The Reckoning (Don't Tread on Me)", "Declaration Day", and the acoustic version of "When the Eagle Cries (Unplugged)" were all released as music videos.

Framing Armageddon (2007)
Framing Armageddon is the ninth studio album from Iced Earth, released on September 11, 2007. It is part one of two concept albums based on Iced Earth's fifth studio album, Something Wicked This Way Comes.
Framing Armageddon is the band's first studio album featuring lead guitarist Troy Seele, and drummer Brent Smedley, who never played on an Iced Earth studio album during his previous stints with the group. Tim "Ripper" Owens makes his final appearance as lead singer on this record, as well. Also, this was bassist Dennis Hayes' only appearance on an Iced Earth album, though he only appears on two songs. Former Iced Earth guitarist Tim Mills plays the clean guitars on the interlude "Reflections", and assisted in writing two songs.
In December 2006, Jon Schaffer posted a journal announcing that Iced Earth's new album, then titled Something Wicked - Part 1, would be released in September/October 2007. The followup album, then titled Something Wicked - Part 2, would be released in January/February 2008. On March 17, Schaffer announced the final tracklist, and that the album would be renamed to Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Part 1), with a new target release of August or September. On June 25, Schaffer uploaded the cover of the album on icedearth.com. Audio samples of all the tracks have been posted at spv.de, the official site of the band's record label.
A music video for "Ten Thousand Strong" has been released, though lead guitarist Troy Seele was not yet with the band when it was filmed. The video features special effects to make the live action video resemble animation.

Revelation Abomination
(Something Wicked Part 2)
Revelation Abomination (Something Wicked Part 2) is the upcoming tenth album by American heavy metal band Iced Earth, and the second album of two in Iced Earth's Something Wicked saga. The first album of the saga, Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Part 1), was released in September 2007.
On March 17, Iced Earth founder and rhythm guitarist Jon Schaffer announced to Blabbermouth.net information about the album's new name, the final tracklist, and a tentative release date.[1] In an update posted on the Iced Earth website in late June 2007, Schaffer said that "'Revelation Abomination (Something Wicked Part II)' is a working title only and I'm certain I will change it as I finish the writing of Part II."[2]
It was made known in December 2007 that due high demand from European fans, ex-singer Matt Barlow would return to the fold and do the lead vocals on the second part of the saga, as opposed to Tim Owens on the first.[3] The release date for the album is expected to be pushed back due to an addition to Matt's family; however, once the album is out the band plans to tour and release a live DVD from the tour.

Days of Purgatory 1997
Days of Purgatory is an American heavy metal album by Iced Earth. It is a collection of remixes and remakes from previous albums. All the songs from the Enter the Realm EP, Iced Earth, and Night of the Stormrider were re-sung by Matthew Barlow, and on some of the songs the drums and bass redone. The 2-cd version also has remastered versions of several songs from Burnt Offerings.
The reason for the album was to improve the original songs, create nostalgia for older fans and introduce newer fans to Iced Earth's older work. The 2-cd limited edition was originally produced for European audiences but has since been released in the United States. Days of Purgatory was the last new release from the band featuring longtime guitarist Randall Shawver, and the first to feature bassist James MacDonough and drummer Brent Smedley.
The version of "Winter Nights" from this album is often mistitled as "Slednecks" on many P2P file sharing networks.
The album cover features artwork of the Chaos Comics character Purgatori.

The Blessed and The Damned 2004
The Blessed and the Damned is a double CD best of compilation album by the American heavy metal band Iced Earth. The CD-booklet can be reversed, to show either angels or demons on the cover. The booklet also includes Jon Schaffer's comments on previous albums and his life. Even though the CD was released after The Glorious Burden, the biography in the booklet makes no mention of it. This is probably due to the fact that Iced Earth left their record label Century Media Records prior to The Glorious Burden, and signed with SPV. In turn, Century Media released this compilation album.

The Melancholy E.P.
The Melancholy E.P. is an EP by American heavy metal band Iced Earth, and was originally released in 1999 as a radio promotion; however, some were sold directly to the fans.
The EP contains three original Iced Earth songs and two covers: "Shooting Star" by Bad Company, and "Electric Funeral" by Black Sabbath.
Only 1500 copies exist of the first edition.
In 2001, the EP was re-released in greater numbers due to demand. The re-release contains the songs from the limited edition plus two new ones: one is a Judas Priest cover of "The Ripper", which had appeared as a bonus track on the limited edition release of The Dark Saga and the Judas Priest tribute album A Tribute to Judas Priest: Legends of Metal Vol. 2, and the other is a live version of "Colors" (from Iced Earth), a song that didn't make it on to the Alive in Athens album, due to tracklisting mixups.

Also, the cover of this EP is very similar to that of Iron Maiden's The Trooper, which could be a form of tribute to them, as Iced Earth have sourced them as an influence [1].

Overture of the Wicked
Overture of the Wicked is an EP by Iced Earth, which was released in June 4, 2007 in Europe and June 5, 2007 in the USA. The EP features the band's new single "Ten Thousand Strong", as well as a rerecording of the original "Something Wicked" song cycle (from the album Something Wicked This Way Comes). The re-recorded tracks are also slightly rearranged, with the piano intro to "The Coming Curse" notably absent in the new version.
The four songs features most of the band's October 2006-March 2007 lineup, with guitarist Jon Schaffer playing bass, as former bassist James "Bo" Wallace left before recording began. Overture of the Wicked is the only official Iced Earth release with former guitarist Tim Mills, and the first with drummer Brent Smedley since 1999's The Melancholy E.P..
The EP was leaked to the internet on April 26, 2007.
