Elodia 1999Elodia is the sixth album by German duet Lacrimosa.
Lacrimosa describe Elodia as a concept album and a rock opera, divided into three acts. The first act describes a love that is slowly being overwhelmed; the second act describes the act of separation itself, while the third act begins with a requiem, Sanctus, before ending on a note of hope.
Elodia was an important point in the development of Lacrimosa's music into more classical areas, with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Rosenberg Ensemble and the Hamburg State Opera contributing to the orchestral side. Sanctus is a particular example of this, as it is based on the Christian liturgy of the same name, and dominated by the choral vocals of the Rosenberg Ensemble. It is not entirely an orchestral work, as it includes a section of Tilo Wolff's vocals and a guitar solo; it did, however, pave the way for the track Kyrie on Lacrimosa's eighth album Echos, which was entirely a classical work.

Fassade 2001Fassade (English: Façade) is the seventh album by German duo Lacrimosa.

Whereas the previous album Elodia centred on love, Fassade's theme is that of a lonely individual feeling overwhelmed by society, exemplified by the central song, Fassade, divided into three Sätze (movements), and the album's artwork. There are also a sound between symphonic gothic metal and funeral doom metal rhythms and patterns, as seen in Fassade's differents parts.
The album's cover shows a crowd of men and women identically dressed in what can be assumed to be grey (the album's cover is in greyscale), emotionlessly watching three women wearing gothic lingerie parade down a catwalk. Every single individual in the audience has his or her head wired to the person next to them, implying that they are all part of a hivemind. The only person present other than the models and the audience is Lacrimosa's trademark clown, standing in a side door. The back of the album's cover shows that the back wall of the theatre has fallen away, revealing nothing but fog and the top of a skyscraper.

Echos 2003Echos is the eighth album by German duo Lacrimosa.
Echos continued Lacrimosa's tradition of combining orchestral music with more traditional gothic rock themes. In particular, Echos was Lacrimosa's first album to feature a track that is entirely choral/orchestral: the 13-minute 'overture' and first track, Kyrie.
As for the name "Echos", it's a greek word (written "ήχος" in greek) that is the name in Byzantine music theory for the melody type used in the composition of music. It is akin to a Western medieval mode or an Arabian maqam.

Lichtgestalten - EP 2005Lichtgestalt is a 2005 album by German gothic rock duo Lacrimosa.

Recorded in 2005, it consists of 9 tracks, including the two different versions of The Party Is Over. The album has strong elements of symphonic metal. The album continues in the musical vein of Lacrimosa's previous albums, in contrast to Tilo Wolff's other musical project, Snakeskin.
Lyrics cover Lacrimosa's by-now standard themes of love, estrangement and loneliness. A notable exception is the last individual track, Hohelied der Liebe, a song written entirely for orchestra and choir with no rock elements at all, and with lyrics taken from St Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians. 'Hohelied' is the Lutheran name for the Old Testament book Song of Songs.
