Cry for the Moon was the demo of the Dutch symphonic metal band Sahara Dust (the later Epica). The record contains two songs, that were later on rerecorded for their debute album The Phantom Agony. The band had planned to record this demo in July 2002 already, but had to cancel the recording session due to the departures of Helena Iren Michaelsen and Iwan Hendrikx.

The Embrace That Smothers
On this album, Mark Jansen continues with the collection of songs that make up "The Embrace That Smothers". The first three parts of this can be found on Prison of Desire (2000), the After Forever debut album, and the following three parts can be found on The Divine Conspiracy (2007), Epica's third album. These songs deal with the dangers of organized religion.

Theme
This album's lyrics are mostly based on current events during the writing of the album
* "Cry for the Moon" is based on the abuse of children by Catholic priests. It has been released as a single in 2004.
* "Feint" was written after the murder of Pim Fortuyn.
* "Façade of Reality" is based on the September 11, 2001 attacks. It features two fragments from a speech by Tony Blair.
* "Run for a Fall" expresses Mark's frustrations towards his former band After Forever.
* "Seif Al Din" is about Islamic fundamentalism.

Consign to Oblivion was the second studio-album by the Dutch symphonic metal formation Epica, and was released in April 2005. Trois Vierges features a guest appearance by Kamelot vocalist Roy Khan. The album's lyrics are heavily influenced by Mayan Civilization.

The Score - An Epic Journey is the third Epica album, released in 2005. It's the film soundtrack to Joyride, a Dutch production.

Most of the songs of the album are purely instrumental, and can best be compared to the intros of the previous two albums. * 2007: "The Divine Conspiracy"
The Divine Conspiracy is the fourth full-length studio album by the Dutch symphonic metal formation Epica. It was released on September 7, 2007 through Nuclear Blast. It is the band's first concept album. The idea behind it is that God created many different religions for humanity to figure out and overcome their superficial differences and to discover their true nature, which is the same for all of them. The album features a session appearance by the God Dethroned drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek, who is now a full-time member of the band, following the departure of Jeroen Simons in 2006. The album also features a guest performance from Sander Gommans (After Forever), who contributed grunt vocals for the song "Death of a Dream." The European digipak version of the album contains a cover of Fear Factory's "Replica".

Quietus (Silent Reverie) is the 5th single released by the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica. The album comes in two versions; one with 2 tracks and one with 4 tracks (which was released one week later, October 28). Although at the point of the release of Quietus (Silent Reverie) a newer album entitled The Score - An Epic Journey was already out, this single comes from the forelast album Consign to Oblivion.
The song Crystal Mountain was not composed by Epica. Its original version was performed by the death metal band Death, on the album Symbolic.

* 2006: "The Road to Paradiso"
The Road to Paradiso is the name of a book about the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica (written in both Dutch and English) which was accompanied by compilation album of the same band. It was released on May 4, 2006, on the very same night they performed at Paradiso in Amsterdam. The title The Road to Paradiso was given to the project because the book contained the story of how Epica developed from their beginning days in 2002, until what they had become in 2006. The album also includes demo versions of three of their previous released songs, effectively giving insight into how their songs developed.

The release of the album and book was announced on January 16th, 2006 on the official website of Epica.[1] The band stated that they wanted this album and book "to be made for the fans, but also by the fans".

We Will Take You With Us is the title of the first DVD released by the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica. The DVD only has material that was already released on Epica's debut album, The Phantom Agony, with the exception of Memory, which is a cover from the musical Cats. Feint and Run for a Fall were both acoustic versions recorded at 2 Meter Sessies, a Dutch live music television show. The title of this release is taken from the lyrics to "Façade of Reality".
