* Siége Perilous (1998)
Siége Perilous is the third full-length album released by metal band Kamelot. It was released on August 4, 1998 through Noise Records. It is the first album to feature Roy Khan (ex-Conception) on vocals and Casey Grillo on drums, and also the last to feature keyboardist David Pavlicko.

The CD case is mislabeled. "Rhydin" is track 6. "Parting Visions" and "Once a Dream" are shifted down one each (the track list shown here is the same as the one on the actual CD).

Epica is the sixth full-length album by metal band Kamelot. It was released in January 13, 2003 through Noise Records. It was the first concept album by Kamelot. Most of the lyrics were written before the actual music was composed. This album, along with its sequel The Black Halo, is loosely based on the story of Goethe's Faust.

The Black Halo is metal band Kamelot's seventh full-length album. It was released on March 15, 2005, through Steamhammer Records. It is a concept album loosely based on Goethe's Faust. Continuing the story introduced in Epica, it is the second and final record in Kamelot's two-part concept about Ariel. It features guest appearances by Simone Simons (Epica), Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir), Jens Johansson (Stratovarius), and several others.

* Ghost Opera (2007)
Ghost Opera is the eighth studio album from metal band Kamelot. It was released by SPV GmbH/Steamhammer Records, on June 1 in Germany and followed by releases on June 4 in Europe and June 5 in the United States. It is the first studio album by Kamelot to feature keyboardist Oliver Palotai.
Prior to the release of the album, SPV Records distributed a strictly limited CD single of "Ghost Opera", handed out to fans attending the European Tour in March, April and May 2007.[2]
So far, videos have been released of the songs "Ghost Opera" and "The Human Stain". Another video for "Rule the World" was filmed in January 2008 to be released in April.[3]
On Billboard 200, the album peaked at number 18 on Top Heatseekers and number 48 on Top Independent Albums.[4]

* The Expedition (2000)
The Expedition is the first live album by the metal band Kamelot. It was released in October 2000 through Noise Records. The last three tracks are not live - "We Three Kings" and "One Day" are additional material from the Siege Perilous sessions, and "We Are Not Separate" is a re-recorded version of a song from the Dominion album.

Kamelot is a power metal band that incorporates many elements of symphonic, progressive and on the last two albums even gothic metal into their music. The band hails from Tampa, Florida, and was founded by Thomas Youngblood and Richard Warner in 1991.

* One Cold Winter's Night (2006)
One Cold Winter's Night is a live album released in 2006 by the symphonic power metal band Kamelot. It is the second live album from the band, and was released on November 14, 2006. It marks the first appearance of Oliver Palotai in the Kamelot discography.
The CD is audio from the DVD which was shot from a concert in Oslo, Norway in 2006.

Metal Magic is the first album by the hard rock and heavy metal band Pantera, released in 1983 (see 1983 in music). Like the band's next three releases, this album was musically oriented toward a hard rock/glam metal sound influenced by Kiss and Van Halen, rather than the groove metal style they became famous for playing in the 1990s, starting with the release of Cowboys from Hell. It was released on the band's own label (also called Metal Magic) and produced by Jerry Abbott (under the alias "The Eldn'"), notable country music songwriter and producer, and father of Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul.

I Am the Night is an album by the then-glam metal band Pantera, released in 1985 (see 1985 in music) on record and cassette. Any CD release is a bootleg transferred via vinyl or tape. This album is where some of Pantera's faster and heavier influences were becoming more apparent, especially on the title track and "Down Below". It was also the last album to feature lead singer Terry Glaze.

Power Metal is an album by heavy metal band Pantera, released in 1988 (see 1988 in music).
The album was the first featuring Phil Anselmo on lead vocals, and was also notable for containing Dimebag Darrell's first appearance on lead vocals (he later sang on "Caged in a Rage" and "Heard It on the X" from the Supercop and E.C.W. Wrestling soundtracks, respectively), on the final track, "P.S.T. 88". The album fully realizes the heavier direction hinted on the previous album, I Am the Night, and features more traditional metal songs ("Rock the World", "Over and Out", "Death Trap", "P.S.T. 88"), speed metal songs ("Power Metal", "Down Below" and "Burnnn") and a few glam metal songs ("Hard Ride", "Proud to be Loud" and "We'll Meet Again").
Many fans of the album question the decision of the band not to re-release it, since it is very close to the sound on their next album, Cowboys from Hell, and also has a cult following among many Pantera fans. The album is available through bootlegs at this time, though official releases are scarce.
The song "Proud to Be Loud" was written and produced by Keel guitarist Marc Ferrari and was originally intended to appear on that group's 1987 self-titled album. However, Keel would not record a version of the song until 1998. Pantera's version was used as the party song in the theatrical cut of Donnie Darko, credited to the "Dead Green Mummies".
Pantera's former vocalist Terry Glaze helped co-write "Down Below". An earlier recording of the song with Terry Glaze appears on I Am the Night.

* Cowboys from Hell (1990)

Cowboys from Hell is Pantera's fifth album and their first Atco Records album, released on July 24, 1990.
This was their first commercially successful album, exposing the band's choppy rhythms and dissonant vocals to mainstream audiences for the first time.

Album information
Cowboys from Hell is seen as Pantera's "official" debut by most fans, as well as the band itself as they left behind their glam metal past and began to exhibit a more groove-oriented sound.
The song "Cowboys from Hell" is featured on the PlayStation 2 game Guitar Hero, where it is considered one of the hardest songs in the main setlist, due to its placement in the game's last tier, "Face-Melters".
The song "Domination" has been covered by the Finnish band Apocalyptica, and is featured on their second album, Inquisition Symphony.
Metalcore band Bullet For My Valentine covered "Domination" and released it as a b-side on their Tears Don't Fall single. Also, on the front cover, Vinnie Paul appears to be holding a sandwich in his left hand.

Reception
On the Billboard Music Charts Top Heatseekers, Cowboys from Hell peaked at #27.

IGN named Cowboys from Hell the 19th most influential heavy metal album of all-time[1]. They said about the album:

"Along with Vulgar Display of Power, Pantera's fifth album is not only considered one of the band's best, but is also one of the defining albums of early '90s metal. The band's chemistry really begins to gel with collective symmetry here, as a pre-Dimebag Darrell (he was known as Diamond Darrell back then) rips the strings of his axe like a rabid weasel, frontman Phil Anselmo following in kind with chaotic vocal utterances, and the rhythm section of Vinnie Paul and Rex Brown keeping the rhythms in check and the whole mess glued together with low end prowess."

The album was ranked #11 on the October 2006 issue of Guitar World magazine's list of the greatest 100 guitar albums of all time. [1] It was ranked the #85 heavy metal album of all time by metal-rules.com.[2]

Vulgar Display of Power is a groove metal album by heavy metal band Pantera, released on February 25, 1992.

Album information
One of the most influential metal albums of the 1990s, Vulgar Display of Power is said to have played a major role in defining post-thrash metal, slowing down the tempos and incorporating a harder-edged vocal style. Several songs from this release have become some of the band's best known, such as "Fucking Hostile", "Mouth for War", "This Love", and "Walk", the latter of which reached #35 on the UK Singles Chart.

During the 90s, MTV's Headbangers Ball used excerpts from the album's songs for the show's opening theme, bumpers, and closing theme. Perhaps the most prominent sample is that of Anselmo screaming "hostile," taken from the end of the song "Fucking Hostile". "Rise," "Regular People (Conceit)" and "Mouth for War" were covered by Robert Prince for the first-person shooter computer game Doom, and a cover of "This Love" appeared in Doom II: Hell on Earth.[1]

In April 2007 the title was used for the book A Vulgar Display of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa, which includes many song titles to name its chapters. The book details those involved and the details leading up to the murder of Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott.
The title of the album is from a line in The Exorcist.

Reception
Vulgar Display of Power peaked at #44 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album achieved Double Platinum status in 2004.
In 2001 Q magazine named it one of the "50 Heaviest Albums of All-Time."
IGN named Vulgar Display of Power the 11th most influential heavy metal album of all-time.[2] They said about the album:

"This album makes the list because it took heavy metal and made it heavier. It took darkness and made it darker. It took anger and made it angrier. Never before had a band tuned down its guitars and crunched a heavier riff than on this album. "Mouth for War" and "A New Level" and "No Good (Attack the Radical)" stand out on an album where every track is a classic track. Dimebag Darrell was an innovator and a true godsend for heavy metal. One of the most underrated players in the genre. And this may sound corny, but the way the band was able to turn seemingly negative aspects of the genre - hate, anger, violence and despair - into positive thoughts is somewhat akin to De La Soul dropping a positive message into rap."

* Far Beyond Driven (1994)

Far Beyond Driven is an album by heavy metal band Pantera. The album was released on March 15, 1994 through East West Records. It is considered one of the most extreme albums ever to debut at #1.[1]
An explicit version of the cover art (seen below) was originally sold but was later replaced due to censorship issues.

Album information
Far Beyond Driven took Pantera's music to an even heavier and more extreme style than on previous releases. Much of the shift was due to Dimebag Darrell's more down-tuned and up-tempo playing styles. Anselmo's lyrics of "I'll be a better father than you ever were" may shed some light on his personal life.

In the liner notes of the album, all the song's lyrics are printed beside the cover of "Planet Caravan". The liner notes read:
"This is a Black Sabbath song off of the Paranoid album. So don't freak out on us. We did the song because we wanted to. It has nothing to do with the integrity of our direction. It's a tripped out song. We think you'll dig it. If you don't, don't fucking listen to it. Thanks. On behalf of the rest of Pantera, Philip Anselmo '94".
This was the first Pantera album with Darrell being called "Dimebag Darrell" and not "Diamond Darrell," although in Vulgar Video he is referred to as "Dimebag."
The album is referenced in the Machine Head song "Aesthetics of Hate", the third track from the 2007 album The Blackening.

Reception

The Great Southern Trendkill is a groove metal album by Pantera. It was released in May, 1996 through East West Records.
Due to inner tensions, Phil Anselmo recorded the vocals separately from the other members of the band at Trent Reznor's Nothing Studios in New Orleans; Dimebag Darrell, Rex Brown and Vinnie Paul recorded the music at Chasin Jason Studios in Dallas, Texas. It reached #4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

Album information
The Great Southern Trendkill notably features the fastest tempos, most down-tuned guitars, and most guttural vocals that the band ever recorded. It also has a more experimental nature to its songs, such as the acoustic guitar and keyboard-laden "Suicide Note Pt. I". Unlike Pantera's first three major label albums, the vocals are often double tracked and layered to create a more "demonic" effect. An example of this can be heard in the chorus of "13 Steps to Nowhere", when Phil Anselmo's singing voice is backed up by high pitched screaming, done by Seth Putnam of Anal Cunt fame.[1]
The lyrics tackle topics such as Anselmo's hate for the media ("War Nerve"), suicide ("Suicide Note Pt. I"), drug abuse ("10's", "Living Through Me (Hell's Wrath)") and the end of the world ("Floods"), and Anselmo's view on trends ("The Great Southern Trendkill", "Sandblasted Skin").

Reinventing the Steel is the last studio album by the very popular groove metal band Pantera.

Album information
It reached #4 on the Billboard Top 200 charts, #8 on the Top Canadian Albums chart, and #5 on the Top Internet Albums chart. The album's fifth track, "Revolution Is My Name", reached #28 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks.
Reinventing the Steel contains lyrics mostly about the band itself, as on "We'll Grind that Axe for a Long Time" (where the band members tell about how they've kept it "true" throughout the years, while many of their peers "sucked up for the fame") and "I'll Cast a Shadow" (about Pantera's influence on the genre). There are also songs about their fans, like "Goddamn Electric" and "You've Got to Belong To It." The band members dedicated Reinventing the Steel to their fans, whom they viewed as their brothers and sisters.

* Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? (1986)
Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Megadeth. Originally, the project was being handled by a small record company called Combat Records, and this resulted in the first mix of the album (nicknamed "Peace Diffs... But Who's Buyin?" aka "Peace Sells Combat Mix"), which can be found on the internet as a bootleg. Eventually Capitol Records bought the rights to the album and a producer was hired to mix it himself. It was released in 1986. It was remixed and remastered in 2004 by Dave Mustaine (though it is not known if the remaster is of the Combat release, the Capitol release, or a combination of both).

The album's cover makes an ironic statement about the Cold War. On the backdrop of a red and orange sky, it shows the United Nations headquarters soon after a nuclear attack. In the foreground is the band's mascot, Vic Rattlehead. He stands above a sign reading "For Sale" ("Vic Realtors" appearing in some copies), implying that the United Nations is for sale. The cover and the title suggest that while peace is a popular theme, if it were sold as a commodity, no one would buy it. These themes carry into the title track, with its strong themes of youth disillusion. Dave Mustaine got the title from a Reader's Digest article.

The song "Peace Sells" ranked #11 on VH1's 40 Greatest Metal Songs[1] and the bassline at its beginning was used for years as the theme for MTV News and also appeared in the 2002 videogame Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, playing on Rock station V-Rock.

So Far, So Good... So What! is the third studio album by American thrash metal band Megadeth. It was released by Capitol Records in 1988 (see 1988 in music). A remixed and remastered version, with vastly improved sound quality and featuring several bonus tracks, was released in 2004.

* Youthanasia (1994)
Youthanasia is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band Megadeth, released on November 1, 1994. A remixed and remastered version, featuring several bonus tracks, was released in 2004.

The title is a pun on euthanasia, implying that society is euthanizing its youth, which would be consistent with bandleader and principal songwriter Dave Mustaine's views.

Youthanasia continued the band's trend toward slower, more melodic songs which began with Megadeth's commercial breakthrough album, Countdown to Extinction. The tempo was slower than some older fans could tolerate, and contributed to a division amongst Megadeth fans (this was due to producer Max Norman demanding each song would be played at the same tempo; Dave Mustaine has stated that certain songs would've ended up slower or faster than their original BPS tempo was set at). The lyrics and overall feel of Youthanasia is darker than the other Megadeth albums. It is the darkest Megadeth album to date. However, the album met with great financial success.

Lyrically, the album displays a variety of influences: mythology ("Elysian Fields" and "Blood of Heroes"), rape and incest ("Family Tree"), nuclear war ("Black Curtains"), gambling ("Train of Consequences"), and a hit that is about the last moments in life, "À Tout le Monde".

Cryptic Writings is the seventh studio album by heavy metal band Megadeth, released in June of 1997, with a remixed and remastered version released in 2004. The album debuted at #10 on billboard top 200.
An EP with instrumental versions of five of the songs was released the following year.
Videos were made for the songs "Trust", "Almost Honest", and "A Secret Place".
"Use the Man" includes samples from the song "Needles and Pins" by The Searchers, although this was removed on the remaster.

* Risk (1999)
Risk is an album by thrash metal band Megadeth released in 1999. Risk is also notable as the last original Megadeth release to feature long time Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman. This album is the first Megadeth recording with drummer Jimmy DeGrasso.

The title stems from Dave Mustaine's decision to take a risk with the musical direction of this album at the suggestion of former bandmate Lars Ulrich, who (as well as the other members of Metallica) had taken a new direction with the Metallica albums of the late 1990s. This decision resulted in mixed reviews for both the band and the album; a good portion did not favour the new sound and image, while the rest praised the band for attempting something different and experimenting rather than sticking to their roots.

* The World Needs a Hero (2001)
The World Needs A Hero is an album by Megadeth, released in 2001. It was marked as a welcome return to Megadeth's more heavy metal roots, after the commercial rock style of their previous releases, Cryptic Writings and especially Risk. However, it still retained a bit of the commercial feel from previous albums, as Mustaine claims the album was like "a ship lost at sea trying to return to its course".
"Return to Hangar" is a sequel to the song "Hangar 18", which was found on the Rust in Peace album.
Mustaine also dedicated the song "When" to all the nay-sayers on Megadeth's internet message board who spoke ill of him and the band after their recent attempts at commercial success (or, a "big fuck you to all the wishy-washy fans out there".) The song's intro riff is the same as a riff found in Metallica's "The Call of Ktulu", which Mustaine co-wrote during his days as Metallica's lead guitarist. The main riff and structure of "When" is reminiscent of "Am I Evil?" by Diamond Head, which Mustaine has said was intentional, as an homage to Diamond Head and the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement[1].
Edited versions of the album put a black bar over the innards of Dave Mustaine which Vic Rattlehead is seen emerging from to edit the violence.

* The System Has Failed (2004)
The System Has Failed is the tenth studio album released by American thrash metal band Megadeth, and the first album to be released after the break-up of the band in 2002. It was released on September 14, 2004.
The "system" referred to in the album's title is "the American system and western civilization" which in Mustaine's opinion dictates what the world follows. Mustaine cites examples of such failure in America's educational system, which underpays its teachers, and its court system, which allows criminals to escape punishment.

* United Abominations (2007)
United Abominations is the eleventh studio album by the American thrash metal band Megadeth. Released on May 8, 2007, United Abominations is the first Megadeth release distributed through Roadrunner Records, and was recorded with an all new lineup excluding the band's singer, guitarist, songwriter, and frontman Dave Mustaine. While touring to promote the album, guitarist Glen Drover left the band for personal reasons and was replaced by Chris Broderick.

United Abominations was well received by critics and debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200, the highest chart position for the band since 1994's Youthanasia. Greg Prato of All Music Guide stated Megadeth "sound reborn" on United Abominations.[1] The lyrics of the album deal with politics and the state the world is in, with Ed Thompson of IGN stated the album is the band's most politically charged.[2] The album was named the number one metal album of 2007 by Guitar World.[3][4]

(Japan release)
Live Trax II is an EP by Megadeth released in 1997. Live tracks were recorded at the Mesa Amphitheatre, Mesa, Arizona, July 13, 1997. It was only released in Japan and was sold as a Bonus Disk together with Cryptic Writings album in one package. Apart from live tracks Live Trax II features two previously unreleased remixes of "Almost Honest".

Rude Awakening
Rude Awakening, Megadeth's last album before the band was broken up for the first time in 2002, was released by Sanctuary Records in 2002. (The band was 'restarted' in 2004, with only Dave Mustaine remaining from the previous lineup.)
The album was going to be recorded live at a concert in Argentina, but due to the September 11, 2001 attacks, the band decided to record it live in the United States.
The album was a near total rejection of much of Megadeth's 'softer material' (such as the album Risk, which had no songs featured) and was seen as a return to their heavier, more 'metal' days of the 1980s and the early 1990s. (much of the material, if not all, were hand-picked by many Megadeth fans who voted for the line-up on megadeth.com)
Tracks on the album and DVD are taken from two live concerts, performed two nights in a row in November of 2001. The first night was at the Rialto Theater in Tucson, Arizona, followed the next day by an almost identical performance (To ensure clean audio and video footage, and for a variety of editting options), at the Web Theater in Phoenix, Arizona.

Still Alive... And Well?
Still Alive... And Well? is a Megadeth compilation album released on September 10, 2002 (see 2002 in music). The album's name is a quote from Dave Mustaine's answer to an interviewer's question: "What do you want written on your tombstone?" The first six tracks are live tracks, recorded at the Web Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona, USA on November 17, 2001. The following six tracks are studio-recorded, and can be found on The World Needs A Hero. Tracks 1 & 2 are previously unreleased, however tracks 3 - 6 can be found on the band's first live album Rude Awakening released later that year.

Unplugged In Boston
Unplugged In Boston is an acoustic album by thrash metal band Megadeth that was released as part of the Megafanclub package for 2006. The CD is only available through the fanclub at this time, similar to the previous years Unplugged in Philly disc. That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires
That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires is a live DVD from American thrash metal band Megadeth. It features a live concert recorded in Buenos Aires on October 9, 2005. The performance is segued by cuts of Dave and Glen performing a few acoustic songs for some fans on the lawn outside of the band's hotel. It was at this concert that Dave Mustaine announced that Megadeth would continue on past the 2005 tour. An iTunes version of this show is now available at this link [2]. This version included three more songs not featured in the DVD ("Skin O' My Teeth", "Die Dead Enough" and "Angry Again"). The 2 CD version was released on September 4, 2007. It was originally intended to be released at the same time as the DVD.

Cryptic Sounds: No Voices in Your Head

Cryptic Sounds is an instrumental EP Megadeth released in 1998 in Japan and Argentina only, and in Korea as a bonus CD of Cryptic Writing, highlighting 5 selections from their seventh studio album, Cryptic Writings.
Vocal tracks on the songs are replaced with guitar melodies, while "She-Wolf" was completely reworked, with the first half of the song performed in a Spanish acoustic style.

Capitol Punishment: The Megadeth
Capitol Punishment: The Megadeth Years is a greatest hits album by heavy metal band Megadeth, released in 2000, through Capitol Records. The album featured the Dave Mustaine/David Ellefson/Jimmy DeGrasso/Al Pitrelli line-up on the new tracks "Kill The King" and "Dread and the Fugitive Mind". The album features a hidden track, which is a medley of numerous previous Megadeth songs.
The album contains songs from all previously released albums except the band's debut, Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!, because the band's association with Capitol had not begun at that time.
Originally, Capitol Punishment was the album later released as The World Needs A Hero on Sanctuary Records. This was released as a promo, but when it became apparent that the album was going to be released in its current state, the promos were quickly recalled. It is currently available as a bootleg entitled "Original Capitol Punishment". All songs were remixed on the final release.

Greatest Hits: Back to the Start
Greatest Hits: Back to the Start is the second greatest hits album by Megadeth. It was released in 2005 by Capitol Records. The tracklist for Back to the Start was largely the result of a poll on their official website, in which tens of thousands of fans voted for their favorite tracks from the band's albums and rarities compilation. All songs are digitally remastered. The face of Megadeth's mascot Vic Rattlehead can be seen in the mushroom cloud on the album cover. The mushroom cloud itself is likely from one of the tests in Operation Castle.
